In February, explore the new winter activities of Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook and Parc Découverte Nature!

Coaticook, February 2nd, 2021Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook and Parc Découverte Nature continue to introduce fresh new features to their sites. The traditional Snow Festival and Ice Fishing Festival have given place to a program focused on the joys of outdoor activities in complete safety.

 Parc de la Gorge Coaticook

The Liéri kingdom, an outdoor escape game

This new activity offers outdoor enthusiasts and escape game fans a combination of both their passions within a captivating site! Throughout the game, visitors must entertain the Liéri, this magical creature that takes on different forms basically did not fall asleep this past autumn equinox.

The Liéri is amused when he sees the players succeed through the accessible challenges which come in various difficulty levels. The game is purchased online and participants must physically come to Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook to access the clues that allow them to solve the mysteries. The equipment required is a cell phone and usage of the LTE network since Liéri had too much fun with the Park’s WI-FI.

“The action takes place on the mountain trail which is accessible to everyone, making it the perfect playground as well as exhibiting Instagrammable points of view! Playing Liéri is literally going outside and using all your muscles,” says Caroline Sage, general manager of Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook and Parc Découverte Nature.

Snow scooter rentals

The Park has acquired a fleet of snow scooters. This Scandinavian tradition is gaining popularity in Quebec and combined with the enthusiasm for the winter outdoors, this has created the ideal time to enhance the equipment rental offer already in place (snow bikes / fat bikes, snowshoes).

Renting scooters can spice up winter hiking and is an excellent exercise suitable for anyone who desires something new in simplicity. The supports added to the scooters allow children (1 to 5 years old) to be seated in complete safety. For older children, no support is required. They can sit comfortably to be “pushed”.

“We have thought of people with reduced mobilities for whom this activity is ideal. You simply need to find the right teammate! We have also set up a prototype project that combines snow scooters and dogs. It is possible to rent a dog harness weighing 65-70 lbs that attaches to the scooter. We will test these arrangements and if the interest is noteworthy, we will evaluate the possibility of buying harnesses of different sizes “adds Caroline Sage.

Dog sled ride

On February 25th -26th -27th and 28th, 2021, visitors will be able to enjoy a “discovery dog sledding formula”. The experience is similar to the one presented during our winter events, therefore a stroll of about 1 km at a reasonable cost will take place. The option of offering fixed time openings per family bubble via online bookings ensures a safe activity that will certainly be a big hit.

“With the school break approaching, we wanted to offer something new that would make it easier to plan for this long-awaited moment. Dog sledding is the perfect activity that can be combined perfectly with all our other activities and suitable for all our customers. It’s also a great gift for Valentine’s Day,” says Caroline Sage.

The dog sled reservation includes access to the trails (winter hike, snow bike / fat bike and snowshoeing), to the skating rink and to a small slide. Visitors must bring their sleds and skates (no rentals available on site). Although, Snow bike / fat bike, snowshoe and scooter rentals are available on site (extra charges will apply).

Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook offers a multitude of marked and well-maintained trails for winter hiking (7.5 km), snowshoeing (21 km), snow biking / fat bike (17 km) and ice climbing (8 walls).

Parc Découverte Nature

Ice fishing is a must! Fishing rods and baits are provided free of charge as well as a training in regards to the best practices of this winter sport. “We see that people are actively looking for outdoor activities. Opening our doors every Saturday in February 2021 responds to this growing demand, in addition, helping create the upcoming generation, “says François Lajeunesse, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Parc Découverte Nature.

Visitors will have the opportunity to experience part of the Acoatica adventure by exploring the indoor interactives. “The project is progressing well and we are really pleased to make this section accessible to the public, which will inspire visitors to come back when it opens in June 2021” said Caroline Sage, director of Parc Découverte Nature.
